KHOROG, July 18, 2008, Asia-Plus — The first 12 bloodless operations have been performed at the GBAO regional central hospital in Khorog, Shodi Jamshedov, the head of the GBAO health directorate,
“Endoscopy or laparoscopy is both diagnostic and surgical operation, which is performed by laparoscope, an instrument through which structures within the abdomen and pelvis can be seen,” said Jamshedov. “ A small surgical incision (cut) is made in the abdominal wall to permit the laparoscope to enter the abdomen or pelvis. A diversity of tubes can be pushed through the same incision or other small incisions permitting the introduction of probes and other instruments. In this way, a number of surgical procedures can be performed without the need for a large surgical incision.”
According to him, the closed surgery technologies have been use in Tajikistan for already several years, while in Gorno Badakhshan, such operations were performed for the first time.
“It has become possible due to assistance provided by the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) with purchase of necessary equipment and training of personnel,” The GBAO health directorate said.
