DUSHANBE, June 28, 2008, Asia-Plus  – A two-day session of the CIS council of interior ministers opened in Batumi, Georgia today.  

Ms. Maria Gutsalo, a spokeswoman for the CIS Executive Committee, told Asia-Plus that the session is considering a draft agreement on exchange of the crime-prevention information and a draft program for cooperation among the CIS states in countering illegal migration in 2009-2011.  

According to MS. Gutsalo, the program for countering illegal migration aims at expanding cooperation among the CIS states in combating illegal migration through a complex of measures, based on analysis of the migration situation and migration development trends, the results of scientific researches and practice of countering illegal migration, including an experience of joint efforts of relevant agencies of the CIS states.     

The CIS ministers are also scheduled to discuss some organizational issues, including functioning of hotline for coordination and interaction in combating IT (information technology) crimes and a pilot draft Internet-site of the single information base of interior ministries’ education facilities.

The CIS interior ministers will also determine that country that will host the next session of the CIS interior ministers’ council.
