Microfinance organization expands operations into Khatlon and Gorno Badakhshan

DUSHANBE, June 23, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Over the past six years of its operation, the microfinance organization MicroInvest has opened 16 branches across Tajikistan, the MicroInvest director general Shoira Sodiqova said. 

According to her, the organization has attracted 15,000 active customers and provided 34.4677 million somonis in loans over the report period  

“MicroInvest now offers six type of loan products: commercial loans; loans for development of animal husbandry and milk production; individual and consumer loans; loans for processing vegetables and fruits; and loans for growing agricultural crops,” Sodiqova said.

She noted that MicroInvest is a self-supporting and over the first quarter of this year, MicroInvest’s financial self-repayment have made 140.7 percent.  

Sodiqova noted that among partners of MicroInvest are the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), German Agency for technical Cooperation (GTZ), micoroloan company Frontiers  (Kyrgyzstan) and a number of international organizations.    

            Sodiqova noted that MicroInvest now operates in fourteen cities and districts of Sughd and seven districts subordinate to the center.  The organization also intends to expand its operation in Khatlon and Gorno Badakhshan as well.  

The Microfinance organization MicroInvest was established by international organization ACDI/VOCA in March 2002 within the framework of the USAID-supported Ferghana Valley Regional Microfinance Project.  MicroInvest’s loan portfolio currently amounts to 27,288,816 somonis (equivalent to $7.9536).
