DUSHANBE, January 22, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) is continuing to register candidates nominated for election to Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament.
Today, the Commission is expected to register candidates nominated by the Islamic Revival Party (CPT) and the Communist Party (CPT).
The IRP reportedly included 27 candidates in its party list while the CPT included 7 candidates in its party list.
We will recall that on January 20 and 21, the CCER registered candidates that were included in the party lists of the Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT), the Socialist Party of Tajikistan (SPT), the Party of Economic Reforms of Tajikistan (PER), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Agrarian Party (APT).
The DPT included four candidates in its party list, the SPT and the PER – six candidates each, the PDP – 27 candidates and the APT – 13 candidates.
The 2015 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan will take place on March 1, 2015.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies. Majlisi Milli has 33 members, 25 elected for a five-year term by local legislature (majlis) members and eight appointed by the president.
