Tajik, Chinese leaders expected to meet at least twice this year

DUSHANBE, March 11, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Monday March 9, Tajik Ambassador to China Rashid Alimov met in Beijing with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Gopin, according to the Tajik Embassy in Beijing.

The two reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and China.

They, in particular, noted that an official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Tajikistan in September 2014 had given a new impulse to expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping reportedly met thrice last year and “friendly relations and deep political mutual trust were established between them.”

Alimov and Chen declared for the necessity of supporting efforts on ensuring sovereignty and other basic interests of their countries, closer coordination and interaction in solving international and regional issues, and converting agreements reached at the highest level into practical results of the bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Chen reportedly confirmed participation of a Chinese delegation in the high-level international conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Life”, 2005-2015, which is expected to take place in the Tajik capital from June 9-11 this year,

This year, Emomali Rahmon and Xi Jinping are expected to hold at least two official meetings.  Besides, official meetings of prime ministers, foreign ministers and heads of a number of ministries of the two countries are planned to take place this year.  A special attention will be taken issues related to working out joint steps on a number of topical international and regional problems, jointly combating “three evils,” providing peace and stability in the region and expanding trade and economic cooperation.            

In 2014, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and China reportedly exceeded 2.5 billion U.S. dollars (28.5 percent increase compared to 2013).
