DUSHANBE, March 12, 215, Asia-Plus – Tajik Minister of Industry and New Technologies Shavkat Bobozoda yesterday met here with Vietnamese Ambassador to Tajikistan with residence in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) Fam Van Fao.

The press center of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MINT) reports the two discussed ways to expand trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Vietnam.

In the course of the talks, Bobozoda reportedly briefed Fam Van Fao on the state of Tajikistan’s industrial sector.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Vietnam last year valued at 812,000 U.S. dollars.

One Tajik-Vietnamese joint venture, VT-Silk, now operates in Tajikistan.  Based in Khujand (Sughd province), VT-Silk produces floss thread.   The whole VT-Silk’s output is reportedly exported to Southeast Asia’s countries.

Tajik joint-stock company (OJSC) Abreshim owns 40 percent of the shares and Vietnam’s Asia Silk Corporation assumes the 60% ownership interest in the joint venture VT-Silk.

Founded in 1994 as Hiep Sang Export Co., Ltd, Asia Silk Corporation (ASC) was reorganized into a corporation Ltd. on January 1, 2001.  Today, Asia Silk Corporation is one of the leaders in silk and cocoons production in Vietnam.  Its products have been exported to many countries and now its main markets are Japan, India, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Lao and Bangladesh.
