DUSHANBE, March 25, 2015, Asia-Plus — Over the first two months of this year, Tajikistan has increased cotton fiber exports by almost 24 percent compared to the same period of last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
In January-February 2015, Tajikistan has reportedly exported more than 20,000 tons of cotton fiber.
Over the same period last year, Tajikistan reportedly exported little more than 16,000 tons of cotton fiber.
Meanwhile, International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) says the international cotton prices has dropped 24 percent in recent year. Therefore, Tajikistan has earned only 26 million U.S. dollars from cotton fiber exports over the first two months of this year, which is 7.5 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
Tajikistan has declined cotton fiber exports in recent years due to the fall in the international cotton prices. In 2014, Tajikistan exported only almost 87,000tons of cotton fiber, 17,500 tons fewer than in 2013 (114,500 tons) and 57,500 tons fewer than in 2012 (144,000 tons).
In 2014, Tajikistan yielded nearly 373,000 tons of raw cotton from 178,000 hectares.
