DUSHANBE, April 17, 2015, Asia-Plus – The project, Technical Assistance to Support the Strengthening of the Health Information System in Tajikistan, funded by the European Union, today started a five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on Data quality and utilization and evidence decision making for 20 specialists from the national and regional levels.

According to the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, the main objective of project goal is in strengthening the health management system, used by Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population (MoHSPP), Ministry of Justice and the Directorate of Acts of Civil State.

The DHIS 2 system has been fully adapted to perform the functions of data entry, analysis, and reporting. It has been tested and is being used nationwide for online data entry from January 1, 2015.

The health statistical reports for the year 2014 were successfully completed with use of the health information system DHIS2.

“The main aim of Health Management Information System (HMIS) is to produce accurate and applicable data for making evidence based decisions for health systems interventions. We consider the use of data as one of the major challenges during the implementation of an efficient HMIS.  The five-day ToT on data quality and utilization and evidence based decision making is conducted with the support of HISP India project partners.  The ToT is attended by the specialists from the MoHSPP, Agency for Statistics under President of Tajikistan, Tajik State Medical University named after Abu Ali Ibn Sino, and Institute of Post-Diploma Education in the Field of Health Care of Tajikistan,” said Ms. Elena Maximenco, the Project Team Leader.  “Presence of university faculty members will contribute to the integration of the training program in the curriculum of studies.  By the end of the year 2015, more than 200 top managers and decision makers will be trained in data quality and utilization and evidence based decision making. ”

The project, Technical Assistance to Support the Strengthening of the Health Information System, funded by the European Union, with a budget of EUR 3.4 million, aims to contribute to implementation of electronic reporting in the health care and civil registration systems at the national level.  The project is implemented by EPOS Health Management (Germany) in consortium with ICON-Institute Public Sector (Germany), Oslo University (Norway), and IrfatC (Tajikistan).
