DUSHANBE, May 19, 2015, Asia-Plus — From May 14h through 16, Mr. Takashi Kamada, Ambassador of Japan to Tajikistan, visited Sughd province and attended four handover ceremonies for the GGP projects implemented in Mastchoh, Isfara, Konibodom, and Ghonchi districts.

Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe says all the four ceremonies were held to commemorate the successful completion of the projects funded by the Government of Japan through its scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).”

Each ceremony was attended by the chairperson of respective district, expressing the gratitude for the Government and people of Japan for their support.  The chairpersons attended each ceremony were: Mr. Azizzoda Ghayrat, chairperson of the Mastchoh district; Mr. Davron Zohidzoda, chairperson of the Isfara district; Mr. Ghaybullo Bohiri, chairperson of the Konibodom district; and Mr. Rustam Jourayev, chairperson of the Ghonchi district.

May 14 reportedly marked the handover ceremony for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Infectious Diseases Department of Regional Hospital in Obburdon Jamoat, Mastchoh District.”  The total amount of US$113,745 was provided to the local government of the Mastchoh district for implementation of the project.  With the successful project completion, now the building for the infectious diseases department of the central district hospital has been entirely renovated, benefiting all the patients and workers of the hospital.

On the following day, May 15, the handover ceremony was held in the Isfara district for “The Project for Provision of School Equipment for 7 Secondary Schools in Isfara District,” for which US$88,529 was provided to the local government of the Isfara district.  Through the project seven different schools of Isfara were equipped with sets of brand new desks, chairs, blackboards and cabinets to be used by the students and teachers.

Following the ceremony in Isfara, Mr. Kamada attended another handover ceremony in the Konibodom district to commemorate the successful completion of “The Project for Refurbishment of Gynecology and Obstetrics Department at Central Hospital of Konibodom District.”  US$100,993 was provided to the local government of the Konibodom district to renovate the gynecology and obstetrics department of the Konibodom central district hospital.  Through the project, the hospital was also provided with brand new incubators for newborn babies, altogether creating a drastically improved environment for mothers and newborns.

On May 16, Mr. Kamada visited the Ghonchi district to attend the handover ceremony for “The Project for Provision of Agricultural Machinery to Darkhon Village, Ismoili Somoni Jamoat, Ghonchi District.”  For the project, the local government of the Ghonchi district was provided with US$98,461 to purchase a set of agricultural machinery necessary for improving the efficiency and productivity of the local agricultural work.

Along with Mr. Kamada and chairpersons of each respective district, the four ceremonies were attended by a number of local people including many who worked hard to realize the projects.  In commemorating the successful completion of the projects, Mr. Kamada during the ceremonies also remarked how the GGP projects demonstrate the friendship and cooperation between Tajikistan and Japan.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support and cooperation with the people of Tajikistan for creating positive impacts on various sectors throughout the country.

“Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance.  GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan.  Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs.  As of today, GGP has supported 341 projects in Tajikistan, for which US$ 27.6 million has been allocated since 1996.
