DUSHANBE, July 23, 2015, Asia-Plus /Payrav Chorshanbiyev/ — The Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is expected to consider the issue of providing 100 million U.S. dollars for the financing of construction of the Tajik section of the 1000 Electricity Transmission and Trade Project for Central Asia and South Asia (CASA) in one of these days, Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on July 22.
According to him, implementation of the project in Tajikistan will be supported by the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the governments of United States, the United Kingdom and Tajikistan.
“In all, about 300 million U.S. dollars are needed for construction of the Tajik section of the regional power transmission line which will bring electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan,” the minister said.
We will recall that the Government of Tajikistan and the EBRD on May 15 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) detailing the energy reform agenda which is the precondition to the financing of the landmark regional electricity transmission project, known as CASA 1000.
