DUSHANBE, July 31, 2015, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Tajik Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon revealed on July 31 that 1,032 illegally functioning mosques have been shut down in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year and their buildings have been handed over to cultural centers.

Over the first  half of this year, 109 parents have reportedly been punished for children’s truancy.

The constitution obliges parents to enable their children to attend school and that all children between the ages of seven and 16 must do so.

“In January-June this year, 488 juvenile crimes have been reported in the country, which is 46 cases fewer than in the same period last year,” Tajik chief prosecutor noted.

“Over the same six-month period, criminal proceedings have been instituted against two employees of the public prosecution bodies,” Rahmon said, adding that they face charges of bribery.
