DUSHANBE, May 6, Asia-Plus — This year, Tajik farmers will plant high-yielding growths of cotton on more than 10 percent of areas allotted for cotton, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

The source at a MoA said that seed-growing farms last year planted elite high-yielding growths of cotton on experimental plots in different cotton-growing regions of the country, and on some of those plots, cotton yields were up to 60 hectares per hectare.

“Cotton was planted on experimental plots in a number of farming units in Sughd, farming unit Avesto in Khatlon’s Qubodiyon district and farming unit Dusti in the Tursunzoda district,” said the source.  “The experiment results have shown that Turkish cotton growths Flora and Carmen are most adapted to climatic and agritechnical conditions of the country.”

The government has provided funds for purchasing seeds of these cotton growths and German concern Bayer has delivered them to Tajikistan, according to him.

This year, Tajik cotton farmers have planted 60 tons of seeds of the mentioned cotton growths,” the MoA source said.
