DUSHANBE, August 8, 2015, Asia-Plus — The exchange rate between the dollar (USD) and the Tajik national currency, the somoni (TJS), is continuing to rise.
Over the first week of August, the market buying rate (the buying rate is the rate at which money dealers buy foreign currency) of USD against TJS at some exchange points in Dushanbe has risen to 1:6.678 in Dushanbe.
Over the report period, the market selling rate (the selling rate is the rate at which money dealers will sell the currency) at some exchange points in Dushanbe has risen to 1:6.698.
Meanwhile, the market buying and selling exchange rates set by the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) remain the same – 1:652 and 1:6.54 respectively.
Specialists from Tajik central bank attribute this trend to depreciation of the Russian ruble (RR) against USD.
They also note that demand for USD increases every year in early August as individual entrepreneurs engaged in importing goods and basic food products into the country buy up USD during this period.
The situation is under control and Tajik central bank together with lending institutions is taking all necessary measures to keep the market buying and selling rates between USD and TJS at 1:6.52 and 1:6.54 respectively, the NBT specialists say.
