DUSHANBE, May 2, Asia-Plus  — The head of Tajik Railways Amonullo Hukumatullo too part at the 23 rd international conference of the Organization for Railways Cooperation (OSJD) in Tehran, that kicked off there on April 30 and ran till May 1.  

The conference brought together railways director generals of all the 25 member nations of OSJD to sum up the results of work carried by the organization in 2007, finalize plans scheduled for 2009, approve the OSJD budget and appoint the OSJD chairperson, as well as fix the date and venue for holding the 24th OSJD conference.   

The policy of OSJD member-countries is aimed at preserving and strengthening the position of railways in the international transport market.

Azerbaijan, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Vietnam, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Estonia are the 25 member countries.

Tajikistan’s rolling-stock includes 1,751 cargo cars, 351 passenger carriages and 57 diesel locomotives.  The total length of rails in Tajikistan is 954 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways.  At present there are 31 railway stations in the republic.
