DUSHANBE, April 29, Asia-Plus — Member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) Kholnazar Mahmadaliyev won an April 27 by-election in Khatlon’s Rumi district to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), according to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER).
Muhibullo Dodojonov, a spokesman for the CCER, said that 67,680 voters, 98.5 percent of a total number of voters in this constituency, had participated in the voting process.
“Kholnazar Mahmadaliyev won with 85.8 percent of vote (more than 58,000 votes), with his opponent, Panshanbe Ghayratov of the Party of Economic reforms, gathering 13.5 percent of the vote (9,010 votes),” Dodojonov said.
The by-election was called following appointment of Sirojiddin Najmiddinov, who formerly represented the Rumi district in the parliament, acting chairman of Khatlon’s Qumsangir district.
