DUSHANBE, April 29, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan have set up working groups for establishing a joint Persian-language TV channel, Asadullo Rahmonov, the head of Tajikistan’s Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the issue of launching a joint satellite television network is under control of the coordination council under the government of the three countries in accordance with agreements reached during the trilateral ministerial summit that was held in Dushanbe in late March.

Rahmonov further added that establishment of the joint TV channel is a long and laborious task requiring financial and technical means; “however, implementation of this project is not far off.”

As it had been reported earlier, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran are preparing to launch a joint satellite television network for Persian-speaking audiences.  In July 2006, during a meeting in Dushanbe, the presidents of the three countries agreed to launch the joint network with the aim of further promoting economic, social and cultural cooperation.
