KULOB, April 14, Asia-Plus  — The branches of Tajik banks in Kulob gave a joint press conference today on the results of work carried out over the first three months of this year.

Speaking to journalists, Shamsuddin Saidaliyev, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob, said that local banks have provided totaling 31.96 million somonis (TJS) in loans over the report period, which much more than in the same period of last year, when only 5.982 million somonis in loans were provided.  

“Of those 31.96 million somonis, 20 million somonis in loans have been provided to cotton-growing farms, working on a total area of 20,800 hectares – at the rate of $500 per one hectare,” said Saidaliyev, “By the end of March, only 2,435 hectares of cotton fields in the Hamadoni district have remained unfunded.  Tajprombank has assumed financing of 500 ha and Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) will fund 537 hectares; the issue of the remaining 1,500 hectares will have been solved by the end of this week.”  

According to him, labor migrants working in the Russian Federation and other CIS states have remitted 21.261 million US dollars, 35 million Russian rubles and 8,000 euros to the Kulob banks over the same three-month period.
