PANJAKENT, February 28, Asia-Plus  – Touramurod Pirov from Sughd’s Ayni district was killed in an avalanche that occurred on the Shariston Pass yesterday, bringing a total number of  people killed in avalanches in the country since begining of the year to 11, Asia-Plus has learned from Zafar Mirzoboshiyev, the chief of  the Ayni emergency management agency.

According to him, Pirov worked with the Chinese company China Road that is constructing the Shahriston tunnel.

The Ayni emergencies chief noted that several avalanches occurred on the Shahriston Pass on Wednesday.

In the meantime, the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) neither refused nor confirmed this information.  The source at a CES said that they have not yet received any information about that incident.

Warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further avalanches in Tajikistan, where dozens of snow-slides have occurred over the past several days.

Tajikistan has witnessed dozens of avalanches over the past ten days.  More than 30 avalanches were reported in Sughd’s Ayni and Shahriston districts alone.
