DUSHANBE, June 10, 2016, Asia-Plus – The 49th session of the CIS Electric Power Council is taking place in Dushanbe today.
According to the CIS Executive Committee press service, the meeting participants are discussing the results of the work of power systems of the CIS member nations last heating season and the ways of interaction during the coming autumn-winter period.
The sides will also discuss Moldova’s experience in reducing power losses in distribution systems.
The session’s agenda also includes issues related to drawing up the plan of joint actions of the CIS Electric Power Council and the UN Social and Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) for 2016-2017 and the CIS Electric Power Council events for 2017.
The CIS Electric Power Council and its working body – the Executive Committee were established in accordance with the Agreement on Coordination of Interstate Relations in the power industry of the Commonwealth of Independent States, signed by the heads of the Commonwealth governments on February 14, 1992.
The CIS Electric Power Council meets twice a year. The Council is dedicated to create conditions for partnership and cooperation between the CIS states in the energy sector. A total capacity of power plants within the CIS area exceeds 322 million kW and they generate 1,264 billion kWh of electricity per year. A total length of power transmission lines within the CIS area is more than 200,000 kilometers.
