DUSHANBE, August 8, 2016, Asia-Plus – An international conference formally titled “Radicalization of Youth as Threat to Security in Central Asia” is being held in Dushanbe today.

Organized by the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan (Nansmit) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the event has reportedly brought together representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan as well as representatives of law enforcement authorities and expert communities of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Inaugurating the conference, Nansmit head Nouriddin Qarshiboyev said, “The main objective of the conference is in creating platform to discuss ways and methods to minimize the threat of radicalism among the rising generation.”

“The recent events in Kazakhstan have shown once again that there are serious problems with prevention of radicalism among youth, and therefore, we want to develop together recommendations on carrying out explanatory work among youth, and thereby make contribution to the fight against violent extremism and terrorism,” the head of the Tajik media watchdog noted.

Meanwhile, according to official data, more than 1,000 Tajik officials have joined the IS terrorist group and at least 150 Tajik nationals had been killed in fighting in Iraq and Syria.
