Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has endorsed amendments giving prison inmates short-term vacations.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on October 12.

Presenting the amendments proposed to the country’s Code for the Execution of Criminal Penalties, Deputy Prosecutor-General, Muhammad Osimzoda, noted that prison inmate could be granted a short-term vacation with the consent of prosecutor’s offices.

Only prisoners with a good record of behavior could request vacations from prison, Osimzoda added.

Besides, the amendments stipulate that by decision of a regional prosecutor or Dushanbe prosecutor persons whose sentences came into force can be held in pretrial detention facilities up to four months in case of necessity.

Under the current legislation, a person whose sentence came into force should be sent to a penal colony no later than ten days after the detention facility administration receives notification that his sentence came into force.
