KHOROG/DUSHANBE, November 21, Asia-Plus  — One person was killed and at least one other was injured Wednesday as a hand grenade RGD-5 exploded in the center of Khorog, the capital of Gorno Badakhshan.


The incident took place at parking near the building of Khorog State University today afternoon.  


Mizrob Dorobov, a spokesman for the GBAO police directorate, told Asia-Plus that the grenade had probably exploded in hands of the 29-year-old resident of Khorog Nourmamad Muzaffarov as a result of casual handling.  As a result of the explosion Muzaffarov was killed one other person was injured.   .


In the meantime, the source at the Ministry of Interior said that according to the preliminary investigation, Muzaffarov was in love with local girl.  He tried to gain her love, but when he was turned down he pulled out the safety pin.  As a result of the explosion Muzaffarov died at the spot and the girl got wound and was taken to the hospital.  Her health condition now gives no reason for concern, the source said.  


The Khorog city prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.
