The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has named the reason behind soldier’s suicide in Kulob.  An official source at a MoD says that a day before the tragedy the soldier knew that his girlfriend had got married.

Recall, a 20-year-old Tohir Habibov, a soldier of a military unit of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) deployed in Kulob, shot himself to death on October 26.  Tohir Habibov reportedly shot himself while being on guard duty.

Tohir Habibov was drafted last autumn from the Ishkashim district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

The Main Military Prosecutor-Office has launched an investigation into the incident.  By defense minister’s order a special commission has been set up to study the cause of the incident.

According to the source, Tohir Habibov was told on the phone a day before the tragedy that his girlfriend in Ishkashim had got married.

“This version is the main one.  However, the military prosecutor’s office is studying other versions as well,” the source said, noting that investigation is under way.
