About 1.500 Tajik labor migrants working in Yakutia may be left without jobs

Date:

Construction and industrial sectors of the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic, a federal subject of Russia, may become inaccessible for foreign nationals arriving in Yakutia to work as labor migrants, local television station NVK Sakha reports.

The Republic’s administration is reportedly preparing one more document restricting recruitment of foreign manpower.

In March this year, Yakutia head Yegor Borisov signed the first such a document banning foreign nationals from working in the trade, education, health, transportation, fishery and vegetable-growing sectors.

According to the statistical data of the Yakutia Interior Ministry labor migration department, mainly nationals of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are working in the republic’s construction sector.

Approximately 3,000 foreign nationals are working in the construction sector, and about 1,500 of them are nationals of Tajikistan.

In the industrial sector, mainly citizens of Ukraine are working.

Yakutia authorities believe the documents should protect the national market and promote decrease in the unemployment rate.

According to data of the Yakutia regional employment agency, there are more than 30,000 unemployed people in the republic and only 10,000 of them have been registered as unemployed.
