Tajikistan, Kuwait agree to set up joint Special Development Fund

Date:

Tajikistan and Kuwait have agreed to hold a joint investment forum in Al Kuwait next year.

According to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) of Tajikistan, the forum aims at expanding direct cooperation between the business communities of the two countries and attracting Kuwaiti investments to stimulate development of Tajikistan’s economy.

An agreement was reportedly reached at the 2nd session of the Tajik-Kuwaiti joint commission for trade and economic cooperation that took place in Al-Kuwait from December 18 to December 20.

Co-chaired by Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and Khalif Mesaad Al-Hamad, First Deputy Finance of Kuwait, the session focused on ways to enhance economic, financial, and business cooperation between the two countries.

The sides also discussed issues related to development of a joint tourism program designed for 2018-2020 and support for development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tajikistan.

They reportedly also agreed to set up a Special Development Fund, the MoEDT press center said.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) expressed readiness to provide financial support for social and infrastructure development projects in Tajikistan, including the Kulob-Qalai Khumb road rehabilitation project (sections “A” and “F”).

The session resulted in signing of a protocol.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti KUNA news agency reports Kuwaiti Minister Dr. Nayef Al-Najraf and Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade held a meeting on December 18 in Al-Kuwait on the sidelines of the 2nd session of the Tajik-Kuwaiti joint commission for trade and economic cooperation, focusing on means to bolster cooperation.
