Tajikistan’s 2008 budget aimed at supporting national currency and curbing inflation, says deputy finance minister

            DUSHANBE, October 24, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s national budget for 2008 is aimed at supporting national currency and curbing inflation, Deputy Finance Minister, Sherali Safarov, remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe today.  

According to him, the national budget indicators reflect the economic and social development of the country. 

“The main objective of the 2008 budget is to provide qualitatively new socioeconomic development of the country and the budget is aimed at providing macroeconomic stability that means to support the national currency and hold inflation at the rate of 8 percent” the deputy minister said, noting that to provide stable development of the country’s economy it is necessary to provide real growth in GDP in the rte of not less than 7 percent and hold inflation at the rate of 708 percent in the coming three years. 

            According to him, a special attention will be paid to coordination of all revenues of the country, grants and investments. 

Safarov said that the revenue part of the 2008 budget is projected to stand at 4.48 billion somonis, while expenditures are projected to be 4.55 billion somonis.  

The deputy minister said state budget indicators reflect the economic and social development of the country and social security spending will amount to 780 million somonis.  

Compared to 2007, the national budget has been increased by 60 percent or 1.2 billion somonis.
