Liquefied gas prices are continuing to rise in Tajikistan.  Over past couple of days, the price for one liter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Dushanbe has risen on average nearly 15 percent.

The price of one liter of liquefied gas in Dushanbe rose from 3.40 somoni on June 15 to 3.90 somoni on June 17, with similar price rises in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, some LNG refueling stations in Dushanbe are currently selling the liquefied natural gas at the rate of 4.00 or even 4.10 somoni per one liter.

Representatives of gas supplying companies say the price hike has resulted from the rising cost of liquefied gas in Kazakhstan, which provides the bulk of Tajikistan's liquefied gas imports.  Kazakhstan now accounts for 80 percent of Tajikistan’s liquefied gas imports.

Kazakh media reports say the wholesale price for one ton of Kazakh liquefied natural gas has risen 10 percent over the first quarter of this year (VAT not included).

Tajikistan receives deliveries of the liquefied natural gas by road and rail.  More than 60 percent of the country's motor vehicles use liquefied gas as fuel.

More than 30 domestic companies are now engaged in supplying the liquefied natural gas to Tajikistan.  Gazpromneft-Tajikistan, Faroz, Temur Oil and Mabdai Nour are the largest suppliers of liquefied gas to Tajikistan.

In January-November last year, Tajikistan imported some 324,000 tons of the liquefied natural gas, which was 6,000 tons more than in the same period of 2016.

In 2016, Tajikistan imported a total of 350,000 tons of liquefied gas, which was nearly 10,000 tons more than in 2015.
