Uzbek parliament speaker congratulates Tajik leader on inauguration of Roghun power plant

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday afternoon received Nuriddinjon Ismailov, speaker of Uzbekistan’s lower house (Legislative Chamber) of parliament, according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

Rahmon and Ismailov reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  

Rahmon noted that reopening of the border crossing checkpoints, air routes, visa-free regime, construction of railways and highways could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries. 

They also discussed a number of issues related to providing regional security and combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime.  

Tajik leader expressed confidence that the visit of Uzbek parliament speaker would promote further development of mutually beneficial partnership between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. 

Uzbek parliament speaker, for his part, congratulated Tajik leader on the inauguration of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP).  

He, in particular, noted that implementation of the Roghun hydropower project was of significant importance not only for Tajikistan but also for the whole Central Asian region.
