Ms. Natsuko Sakata, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry of Japan, met with reporters at the end of the first day of the 7th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Central Asia Plus Japan Dialogue that took place in the Dushanbe on May 18-19.  

According to her, Japan has invested some 25 billion U.S. dollars in the economies of five Central Asia’s nations.

Since 2014, Japan has financed various projects aimed at enhancement of agrarian, transportation and medical sectors of the Central Asian countries and provided technical assistance in these and other sectors, Ms. Sakata noted.  

Foreign Ministers of Japan (Taro Kono), Tajikistan (Sirojiddin Muhriddin), Kazakhstan (Beibut Atamkulov), Kyrgyzstan (Chingiz Aidarbekov) and Uzbekistan (Abdulaziz Kamilov) as well as Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khajiyev reportedly discussed issues related to practical cooperation between the member nations of the Central Asia Plus Japan Dialogue in the fields of tourism, investment and trade.

They also discussed issues of providing regional security.

A special attention was reportedly given to the issue of establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.
