Tajik journalist Sulton Hamad died in Dushanbe yesterday, aged 67 after a long illness.  

Sulton Hamad was one of participants of the peace negotiations between the Government and the Unite Tajik Opposition (UTO) on the side of the opposition.

In recent years, he had worked as journalist and expert on security issues.  

Sulton Hamad is author of several books, including Interview with Brilliant Persons (2008), Connection between Ahmad Zahir and Mawlawi (2008) and Conflicts, Terrorism and Journalists’ Duty (208). 

Interview with Brilliant Persons that was published under support of the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF) contains interviews of Sulton Hamad with known Tajik and foreign politicians, public figures, writers and journalists published in different print media in Tajikistan in 2002-2006.  The book has a circulation of a 700.

Connection between Ahmad Zahir and Mawlawi is about known Afghan singer Ahmad Zahir and influence of great Tajik-Persian poet, Islamic jurist and theologian Mawlana Jala ad-Din Rumi (1207-1273) on his creative work.  The book has a circulation of a 500. 

Conflicts, Terrorism and Journalists’ Duty has a circulation of a 200.  The book is part of SDC-supported project of Tajik MFA and UNDP CO Tajikistan.  The book contains articles published by Sulton Hamad in Tajik newspapers Najot , Tojikiston , Zindagi and Nigoh in 2000-2007.
