Over the first four months of this year, tax receipt have accounted for nearly 70 percent of the budget revenues, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Over the report period, the revenue part of the budget has reportedly stood at more than 7.2 billion somoni. which was 1.0 percent more than it was originally planned.

On January-April this year, the national budget has received 5.035 billion somoni in taxes, which was 10.2 percent or 467 million somoni more than in the same period last year.

The collection of income and profit taxes has reportedly increased by 218 million somoni, the collection of the value added tax (VAT) has increased by 151 million somoni and the collection of excise taxes has increased 39 million somoni.

This year, tax receipts to the national budget are expected to stand at 16.3 billion somoni, which 10.8 percent more than last year.

According to projected figures of the Ministry of Finance (MoF), during 2020-2021 tax receipts will increase on average by 10 percent per year.

Representatives of relevant government bodies say the tax receipts have increased naturally: new entrepreneurs appear and new enterprises are launched, new jobs are created, and the tax receipts accordingly increase.

Meanwhile, local experts say increase in tax receipts has resulted from increasing tax burdens.

An expert on the Tajik economy, who wanted to remain unnamed, says, “To fulfill target set by the government our tax officers raise tax rates where it is still possible, and first of all for business.”
