China is expected to award a US$230 million grant to Tajikistan for rehabilitation of a 92-kilometer road in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
“We are currently carrying out negotiations with China on a grant for rehabilitation of the road from Qalai Khumb, the administrative center of the Darvoz district, to the Rushan district,” the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Suhrob Mirzozoda, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, Chinese specialists will arrive in Tajikistan soon for conducting a feasibility study for rehabilitation of this section of the Dushanbe-Khorog-Kulma highway.
“The estimated budget for implementation of this project is 230 million U.S. dollars,” Mirzozoda said, noting that rehabilitation of this road will be completed in three or four years.
Besides, works on rehabilitation of the Shirgovad-Darvoz and Kulob-Shouroobod sections of the Dushanbe-Khorog-Kulma highway are under way, the deputy minister said.
“We are currently seeking contractor for construction of 18 new bridges in GBAO,” Mirzozoda added.
Meanwhile, projects on rehabilitation of the Qalai Khumb-Vanj (80 kilometers, estimated budget – US$238 million) and Van-Khorog (163 kilometers, estimated budget – US$200 million) have remained among the promising projects of the Ministry of Transport for many years.
