The number  of Tajik citizens seeking for better employment opportunities outside the country has increased approaching the level of five years ago.

According to data from Monitoring and Early Warning in Tajikistan monthly report for August this year, some 54,000 citizens of Tajikistan left the country last month seeking better employment opportunities, which was 1,000 more than in the same period last year.

In August last year, some 44,000 Tajik nationals left the country for seasonal work.  Practically the same number of Tajikistan left the country for seasonal work in August 2017.

In August 2016, the number of Tajiks, who left the country seeking better employment opportunities, not even reached 40,000 people.

In August 2015, the number of labor migrants was 45,819 people, which was 22.2 percent less compared to August 2014. The reduction in labor migration is due to the new regulations for entrance into the Russian Federation on International Passports from January 1, 2015, and amendments in the existing Russian Federation legislation on the activities of labor migrants from foreign countries

In August of 2013 and 2014, the number of Tajik leaving the country for seasonal work was more than 80,000 people and some 80,000 people respectively.

The report notes that more than 411,000 people have left Tajikistan for seasonal work over the first eight months of this year, which was 26 percent more compared to the same period last year.

The increase in labor migration is reportedly due to a certain improvement of labor conditions for labor migrants (amendments made to the Tajik-Russian agreement on labor activities and protection of rights of labor migrants) and Russia’s economic growth.
