The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) will allocate 23 million U.S. dollars for rehabilitation of health facilities in four districts of Khatlon province.
A total cost of the project is 27 million U.S. dollars, including Tajik government’s contribution amounting to some 3 million U.S. dollars, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the Majlisi Namoyandagon is currently discussing ratification of an agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank on the implementation the project, aimed at improving the health of mothers, newborns and children in four districts of Khatlon.
The goal of the project is the modernization of medical institutions, the installation of modern equipment in the first-aid posts of target areas, as well as increasing the capacity of health workers through seminars.
The agreement, which was signed in the beginning of this year, in particular, provides for rehabilitation and refurbishment of hospitals in Baljuvon, Danghara and Khovaling districts as well as in the city of Norak in the Khatlon province.
