Tajikistan diversifies geography of export of food products

Tajikistan last year diversified geography of export of food products.  Tajikistan, in particular, arranged the supply of canned goods to the United States, dried fruits to Turkey as well as juices and other soft drinks to Lithuania, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT).

An official source at a MoINT says Tajikistan last exported 3,100 tons of wheat flour (a 3-fold increase compared to 2018), 4,400 tons of soft drinks (a 2.5-fold increase), 140 tons of fruit and vegetable juices (a 95 percent increase), 2,300 tons of dietary salt (a 85 percent increase) and 484,000 tons of confectioneries (a 30 percent increase).  

In 2019, local enterprises of the food industry produced a total of 5.3 billion somoni (equivalent to 545 million USD) worth of goods, which was 9.2 percent or 452 million somoni more than in 2018.

Last year, the share of the food industry in the overall volume of industrial goods was 19.6 percent, and the share of the processing industry in the overall volume of industrial goods was 33.7 percent, the source added.
