Tajikistan seeks preferential loan from IMF to ensure socioeconomic stability

Date:

The Government of Tajikistan hopes to attract a long-term preferential loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to ensure the socioeconomic stability of the country under the current crisis conditions.

“We are working with IM and we hope to receive this financial support soon,” Finance Minister Faiziddin Qahhorzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on April 8.

The minister did not specify the amount of this loan but noted that the zero interest rate loan would be provided for ten years with a five-year grace period.

He further noted that Tajikistan was currently conducting negotiations for financial support practically with all international financial institutions.

According to him, many organizations have already announced the decision to provide financial assistance to Tajikistan to respond to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Today’s priorities for the Government are public health and food security,” the minister said.
