Entrepreneurs in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), have decided to lower rent for their retail outlets by 30 percent.

According to the Khorog Administration, it was an initiative of entrepreneurs themselves.

A source within the Khorog Administration says that “in some cases, merchants purchase products from farmers at lower prices and then sell them at a bazaar at higher prices that leads to increase in prices for basic food products.”

“Taking this into consideration, by GBAO governor’s order special corners will be established for farmers at bazaars so that they could sell their products themselves, without intermediaries,” the source added.

Meanwhile, a special commission has been set up in the region for stabilization of prices fro basic food products at local markets.

Recall, a resident of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) has applied to GBAO governor Yodgor Faizov with a request to curb prices for the basic food products.  Other residents of the region have supported his post on Facebook

Rashid Rajabovich wrote a letter to GBAO governor Yodgor Faizov on his Facebook page asking him to take measures to curb prices for basic food products in the region.  According to him, merchants at local bazaars have unreasonably raised prices for basic food products (flour, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, vegetables and others) over the past two months.

The price for a 50-kilogram sack of wheat flour at region’s bazaars had reportedly risen from 195 somoni to 250 somoni.  One kilogram of potatoes, previously 4.00-5.00 somoni, now costs 5.50-7.00 somoni, the price for one kilogram of carrots has risen from 2.00 somoni to 2.50-3.00 somoni, the price for one kilogram of onions has risen from 3.00 somoni to 5.00 somoni, and the price for one liter of milk has risen from 5,.00 somoni to 6.00-7.00 somoni.

The post notes that in the case if the authorities do not take measures, “people have full legal right to organize peaceful rallies until the situation with prices is put in order.”
