The northern district of Asht (Sughd province) has exported 2,720 tons of fruits to the Russian Federation, according to the Sughd governor’s press center.

Sughd governor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda has reportedly visited the Asht district to get acquainted with the process of collection and processing of apricots.

The governor has visited the “Durakhshon” farming unit, which planted apricots on an area of 20 hectares.

The Sughd governor’s press center says the Asht district has considerable experience in growing apricots.  Every year, the district exports hundreds of tons of fruits.

Thus, Asht has exported 2,720 tons fruits, including 2,687 tons of apricots and 33 tons of sweet cherries, to the Russian Federation this year so far.

Asht is reportedly preparing another batch of fruits for shipment to the Russian Federation.

Besides, up to 20 tons of fresh fruits enter domestic markets every day.  More than 500 tons of fruits, including 453 tons of apricots, have been sold in the province at an average price of 1.50-2.50 somoni per kilogram, the Sughd governor’s press center says.

Domestic companies also buy apricots in the Asht district for production of juices.  Thus, Tajik water bottling plant Obi Zulol has bought 22 tons of apricots in the Asht district this year for production of juices.
