Coronavirus cases are shooting up in the Central Asia region. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan started registering new cases of COVID-19 no longer after they eased restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
In a statement delivered to the press, Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, noted on June 25 that globally, with 9 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and over 400,000 deaths reported to WHO, the pandemic continues to accelerate, with a record number of new coronavirus cases reported on Sunday, with 183,020 confirmed in 24 hours.
According to him, over 2.5 million cases have been reported from Europe. While the European Region is reporting a decreasing proportion of global cases than earlier in the year, the Region continues to report close to 20,000 new cases and over 700 new deaths daily. Last week, Europe saw an increase in weekly cases for the first time in months, according to Dr. Kluge.
“For weeks I have spoken about the risk of resurgence as countries adjust measures. In several countries across Europe, this risk has now become a reality – 30 countries/territories have seen increases in new cumulative cases over the past two weeks. In 11 of these countries/territories, accelerated transmission has led to very significant resurgence that if left unchecked will push health systems to the brink once again in Europe,” WHO director for Europe said.
Dr. Kluge did not named those countries, but UN health agency later specified that among those countries were Armenia, Sweden, Republic of Moldova, North Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Kosovo.
Fergana news agency says 3,954 officially confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Kyrgyzstan as of June 25. 2,112 COVID-19 patients have reportedly recovered and 43 COVI-19 linked deaths have been reported in Kyrgyzstan as of June 25, 2020.
In Kazakhstan, 19,285 officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported as of June 25. 12,048 people have reportedly recovered as of June 25. Four COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in Kazakhstan on June 25, bringing a total number of COVID-19lnked deaths in the country to 140.
Meanwhile, uzreport.news notes that 276 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Uzbekistan as of the night of June 25, bringing a total number of the officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 7,177. 4,877 patients have reportedly recovered and twenty COVID-19-linked deaths have been reported in Uzbekistan as the night of June 25.
