Financial damage caused by activities of the project implementation units (PIUs) over the first six months of this year has been estimate at 2.2 million somoni, the head of the Accounts Chamber, Qarakhon Chillazoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 18.
According to him, the financial damage has resulted from failure to comply with building regulations, unsatisfactory control over the quality of works performed, etc.
“The largest financial damage – more than 300,000 somoni — has been revealed in activities of the unit for implementation of the project, Building Climate Resilience in the Panj River Basin, which is funded by a grant awarded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project is being implemented by the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation,” Chillazoda said.
He further added that the financial damage caused during the implementation of the Second Dushanbe Water Supply Project was estimated at 250,000 somoni. This project is reportedly being implemented by the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Dushanbevodokanal (DVK – Dushanbe municipal waterworks). According to Chillazoda, this grant was provided by the World Bank to strengthen DVK capacity.
Chillazoda noted that cases regarding financial damage caused during the implementation of the investment projects by the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation and DVK had been sent to the Prosecutor-General’s Office.
Over the first six months of this year, the Accounts Chamber has reportedly inspected nine project implementation units.
