60 Tajik nationals repatriated from Iran

Date:

A special flight was organized on August 13 to repatriate 60 Tajik nationals stranded in the Islamic Republic of Iran due to the coronavirus, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

This special flight was operated by Iran’s Varesh Airlines.

Meanwhile, Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe says Iran was going to send a humanitarian aid to Tajikistan by that flight, but for some technical reasons the dispatch of the humanitarian aid has been postponed.

The humanitarian aid will be sent to Tajikistan by another flights that will be operated soon, representative of the Iranian diplomatic mission in Dushanbe said.

Varesh Airlines is an Iranian scheduled carrier serving the Mazandaran Province.  The airline operates regular services to international and domestic destinations using a fleet of narrowbody aircraft. It commenced operations on October 8, 2018, with services to Tehran and Mashhad.

Recall, Tajik authorities have suspended all international flights.  Tajikistan closed all its airports at midnight on March 19-20 due to the coronavirus concerns.  Only charters flights to repatriate Tajik nationals stranded in foreign countries due to the coronavirus crisis have been operated so far.

According to data from the Tajik MFA, about 17,000 Tajik nationals stranded in foreign countries due to the coronavirus crisis have been brought back to Tajikistan since Tajikistan’s airports were closed.
