Ibrohimkhon Yusufbekov, an official with the Panjakent culture department and member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), has decided to nominate for president.  According to him, he has decided to nominate for preside in order to support the incumbent President Emomali Rahmon. 

Pressa.tj says Yusufbekov has sent an application for registration him as candidate for president to speakers of both chambers of Tajik parliament.    

Yusufbekov wrote in the application that the main purpose for him to run in presidential election is to “to support the incumbent president.”  

He writes in his application that he is veteran of the PDPT and activist of civic society and participates in all political and cultural events being held in Panjakent and Zarafshon Valley.  “I want either the Leader of Nation or his son Rustam Emomali to run in the election, and I want to support them by giving them the votes of my supporters,” Yusufbekov writes in his application.  

Recall, Tajikistan's parliament has set October 11 as the date for the country's next presidential election.  The resolution on the election date was approved on August 6 during a joint session of both chamber of parliament.     

To-date, of seven political parties officially functioning in the country, only the Agrarian Party has nominated its leader to Rustam Latifzoda to run in the presidential election.
