UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan had the online meeting with Minister of Transport to discuss perspectives of future cooperation

Ms. Sezin Sinanoglu, UN Resident Coordinator and Mr. Azim Ibrohim, Minister of Transport discussed the areas on ongoing cooperation within SPECA and ESCAP platforms on transport and connectivity and future perspectives in digital solutions for transport sector, creating economic opportunities along the transport corridors etc.

UN Resident Coordinator mentioned that in 2021, the UN system will be elaborating the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for the next 4 years, to shape main areas for collaboration to support the development of the Republic of Tajikistan. She noted that the new cooperation framework may consider priorities of improving connectivity and creating economic opportunities for the population living along the transport corridors.

The Minister of Transport expressed the readiness for further mutually beneficial cooperation with the UN Agencies in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan became a member of the UN in March 1992. Since 1992, the UN system organizations provided significant support for  humanitarian and development needs of Tajikistan.  Currently development support is being provided to achieving the national development priorities and the SDGs and includes particularly areas of Governance, Sustainable Economic Development, Social Development (health, education and social protection), food security and nutrition, empowering vulnerable groups, resilience and environmental sustainability.
