67 percent of Tajikistan’s economically active population employed in private sector, says Tajik official

The Government of Tajikistan is taking necessary measures to continue the process of economic reforms to support entrepreneurship, especially given the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic and potential risks for the national economy.

Head of the State Committee for Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) Farrukh Hamralizoda noted this while delivering a statement at the roundtable “Entrepreneurship and Investment as a Basis for Economic Growth.”  

According to him, formation of new economic relations, ensuring sustainable economic development, improvement of investment climate, and providing support for entrepreneurship are strategic goals of the government.  

Hamralizoda, in particular, noted that 109 privileges and preferences have been provided to business in recent years in order to support entrepreneurship and attract investments in priority sectors.

A total amount of granted to business in 2016-2018 amounted to 15 billion somoni, Hamralizoda said  

He stressed that the share of the private in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) had increased from 30 percent in 2000 to 70 percent in 2020.

67 percent of economically active population of Tajikistan works in the private sector and they account for 80 percent of country’s tax receipts, GosKomInvest head added.  

According to official statistical data, the current number of able-bodied population of Tajikistan is more than 2.455 million people.  Of them, little more than 2.4 million people are employed and 50,800 people have an official status of unemployed.
