Criminal proceedings have been instituted against “atheist”, who videoed himself tearing up the Quran, Uznews.uz says.   

The video showing a man calling himself an atheist and tearing up the Quran was released online on October 29.

The video caused heated discussions on social networks.  

Interior Ministry’s press center says the man was identified and detained, according to Uznews.uz.  

Criminal proceeding have been institute against him under the provisions of Article 156 (2) of Uzbekistan’s Penal Code – incitement of racial, ethnic, regional or religious enmity; an investigation is under way.
