Qatar celebrates its “National Day” on December 18th

Celebration of the “National Day” comes while the State of Qatar has decided to hold elections of “Shura Council” for the first time in its history.

The Emir of Qatar HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, announced on November 3, 2020 during his speech at the opening of 49th parliamentary session of the Shura Council that his country will hold the first election of the Shura Council in October 2021.

In this way, the Qatari Shura Council will transform from an “appointed council” into “elected council” as an important step toward implementing democracy in Qatar. Members of the parliament will be elected every 4 years by people.

It should be noted that, most countries of the world have praised this step and considered it important in the Qatari endeavours towards democracy.
