KULOB, April 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Kulob regional prosecutor’s office yesterday issued warrants of arrest for two officers of border unit 2033 deployed in Khatlon’s Hamadoni district – Major B. Samadov and Warrant Officer S. Haidarov, Alfattoh Roziqov, deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob region, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, criminal proceedings against them have been instituted under the provisions of four articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – Article 289 (contraband), Article 335 (illegal border crossing), Article 378 (violation of border service rules) and 391 (abuse of office).

The prosecutor noted that another officer of the mentioned border unit – Warrant Officer T. Sharipov – also figured in their case.  “He was sentenced to 25 years in jail two months ago for another drug-trafficking case,” Roziqov said.

Besides, two civilians from the Hamadoni district figure in their case.  One of them, Komil Khoushvakhtov was detained, while another one, Bahodur Mahmadrahimov, is still wanted by police.

“The investigation is under way but one event has already been proved – the mentioned border officers were providing illegal border crossing corridor for Komil Khoushvakhtov on the Tajik-Afghan border in the Hamadoni district,” Roziqov said, noting that the case was handed over to the main military prosecutor’s office.
