KHUJAND, April 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  — After being closed for five months, the Khujand-based Tajik-Vietnamese joint venture, VT-Silk, engaged in deep processing of cocoons, has resumed operations.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the VT-Silk executive director Uktam Tursunov said that enterprise was suspended on November 20, 2008 due to lack of circulating assets and the global economic crisis.

“The enterprise resumed operations on March 30 and it has already begun processing cocoons of last year’s harvest,” Tursunov said, noting that cocoons stored at the enterprise’s warehouses are enough for three months.

According to him, 400 people currently work for VT-Silk and it now works in two shifts.  “We have remitted 100,000 US dollars to the regional association Pila (Cocoon) in order to have raw materials for this year.  This amount is part of prepayment for 400 tons of cocoons.  A total cost of 400 tons of cocoons is 400,000 dollars,” the executive director said.
