On Wednesday April 28, Tajik Security Council Secretary Nasrullo Mahmoudzoda yesterday met here with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.

According to the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation (SCRF), the two discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan in the field of security for 2021-2022.  

A special attention was reportedly given to expansion of cooperation in combating international terrorist and extremist organizations as well as drug trafficking.  

Meanwhile, a session the Committee of Security Council Secretaries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member nations is taking place in Dushanbe today to discuss issues related to providing military security and addressing challenges and threats.  

Plans to equip the CSTO collective rapid response forces as well as plans for the joint training of the collective security system forces and assets are expected to be discussed as well.  The parties will also discuss a schedule of consultations about foreign policy, defense, and security in H2 2021 – H1 2022.  A plan of actions timed to the 30th anniversary since the Collective Security Treaty was signed and the 20th anniversary since the Collective Security Treaty Organization was established is also on the agenda.

Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon is expected to receive the Security Council Secretaries today before the session.

The Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils is the advisory and executive body of the Organization for the coordination of the interaction of member states in ensuring their national security.

The Security Council of Tajikistan, which had previously been an independent government boy, is now subordinate to President’s Executive Office.  

On June 13, 2018, the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on security.  Under these amendments, the Security Council is now subordinate to President’s Executive Office.

The Security Council of the Republic of Tajikistan is a consultative body of Tajik Resident that works out the President's decisions on national security affairs.  Composed of key ministers and agency heads and chaired by the President of Tajikistan, the Security Council was established to be a forum for coordinating and integrating national security policy.
