Afghan and Uzbek presidents advocated the resumption of the inclusive inter-Afghan negotiations

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev yesterday met in Tashkent with Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, who arrived in the Uzbek capital for participation in the International Conference entitled “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities.” 

In the course of the talks, the parties discussed perspectives of interaction on issues of providing regional security and sustainable development, according to the Uzbek president’s press service.  

The leaders of the two countries once again stated the impossibility of a military solution to the Afghan conflict and advocated the early resumption of the inclusive inter-Afghan negotiations.    

They also talked over mutual trade and transit relations between the two countries, particularly power projects and railway construction, says a statement released by the Afghan Presidential Palace on Thursday.

President Mirziyoyev confirmed Uzbekistan’s readiness to actively contribute to achieving sustainable peace in Afghanistan, the Uzbek president’s press service says..
